Data as of 2026-10-20. Planet Zoo 2 costs $49.99 / £39.99 / €49.99 for the Standard Edition and $64.99 / £54.99 / €64.99 for the Deluxe Edition on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Those are Frontier Developments' suggested retail prices, confirmed in the studio's May 2026 announcement and restated verbatim in the launch press release on 13 October 2026. Only two editions exist: there is no season pass, no early-access tier and no Game Pass or PS Plus version announced as of launch week. On Steam's Chinese storefront the same two editions are priced at ¥200.00 and ¥260.00.

Planet Zoo 2 price at a glance

The table below sums up everything you can buy on day one. Both editions contain the complete Planet Zoo 2 experience — the same modes, the same building tools, the same launch-day content and the same platform support — so the entire price difference comes down to the Deluxe Upgrade Pack's six extra species. Any edition pre-ordered before launch also carried the Bonus Content Pack, a set of three exclusive decorations covered later on this page. Prices were consistent across digital storefronts at launch, with regional variations handled by each store.

A suggested retail price is exactly that: a recommendation. Digital storefronts generally match it — Fanatical, an authorised UK retailer, launched at £39.99 and £54.99 — but physical retail can undercut it, as the deals section below explains. Because there are only two SKUs, choosing is straightforward: pick Standard for the complete game at the lowest price, or Deluxe if you already know you want the six additional species from day one.

Standard Edition: what $49.99 gets you

The Standard Edition is the complete game, not a cut-down version. It ships with every launch mode — career scenarios, Franchise Mode, sandbox and challenge play — plus the full piece-by-piece building toolkit, the new custom aquariums and aviaries, and the Wildlife Reserves where animals can be released back into the wild. Frontier has not announced any paid additions to the base experience beyond the Deluxe Upgrade Pack, so nothing in the standard box is incomplete. The launch roster is the largest in the series, with 136 species in total across the two editions.

Pre-ordering the Standard Edition before launch granted the same Bonus Content Pack as the Deluxe Edition: an exclusive Toucan Eat Shop with signage, three animal-shaped donation bins and a Tiger Photo Stand-In Wall. If you bought a physical copy, note that some retailer listings did not clearly state whether the pre-order code was included, so confirm with the seller if the pack matters to you. The reward itself is cosmetic, so nobody missed gameplay content by skipping it.

Deluxe Edition: what the extra $15 adds

The Deluxe Edition costs exactly $15 / £15 / €15 more than Standard and adds one bundle: the Deluxe Upgrade Pack. That pack contains six additional animal species — the Golden Eagle, Golden Lion Tamarin, Great Hammerhead Shark, Axolotl, Blue and Gold Fusilier and Longfin Batfish — plus a selection of exclusive animal signs to place around your zoo as scenery. Several of the six are aquatic or flying species, which plugs them straight into Planet Zoo 2's headline new systems.

Unlike cosmetic-only deluxe tiers, these animals change what you can actually build. A Great Hammerhead Shark demands a custom aquarium; a Golden Eagle needs a purpose-built aviary. If those two pitches alone justify $15 for you, the Deluxe Edition is easy to recommend; if not, the Standard Edition remains the full game. Our dedicated breakdown covers every item in the box, the per-animal value math and the later upgrade path: Planet Zoo 2 Deluxe Edition.

The pre-order Bonus Content Pack and its status

Every pre-order of either edition made before launch included the Bonus Content Pack at no extra cost. It contains three items: an exclusive Toucan Eat Shop with matching signage, three unique animal-shaped donation bins, and a Tiger Photo Stand-In Wall. All three are scenery and guest-facing decorations rather than gameplay content, so nothing mechanically important was tied to pre-ordering. Frontier confirmed the pack would be granted at launch, right up to the 3pm BST release moment on 13 October 2026.

As of 20 October 2026 the pre-order window has closed. The Bonus Content Pack has not appeared as a standalone purchase on Steam, and Frontier has not announced plans to sell it separately on PC — although it does exist as a small standalone SKU on console storefronts, so the situation could still change. The full timeline, contents and post-launch options live in Planet Zoo 2 Pre Order Bonus.

Where to buy Planet Zoo 2

All four launch platforms carry both editions at the same suggested retail prices. On PC you can buy from Steam or the Epic Games Store; console players can use the Xbox Store for Xbox Series X|S or the PlayStation Store for PS5. Frontier lists every official storefront on the game's buy page, which is the safest place to confirm you are purchasing the edition you intend. There is no platform-exclusive pricing and no timed storefront discount at launch.

Whichever storefront you choose, the game is a standard paid release with no subscription tier carrying it as of 20 October 2026. Steam supports achievements, cloud saves, HDR and family sharing, and the console versions ship with full controller support. Since edition entitlements are per-platform, buy for the platform you plan to build on — our Planet Zoo 2 platforms page compares the PC and console releases in detail.

Regional pricing and physical deals

Regional pricing varies most visibly outside the US, UK and EU. Steam's Chinese storefront launched the Standard Edition at ¥200.00 and the Deluxe Edition at ¥260.00, which undercuts a direct currency conversion. Authorised UK retailers such as Fanatical matched the £39.99 and £54.99 suggested prices at launch, and console storefronts show local equivalents of the same SRPs. In practice there is rarely a reason to price-hunt between digital stores.

Physical copies are the one place real discounts appeared early. Before launch, the physical Standard Edition was spotted around £36.85 at UK online retailers — a few pounds under the £39.99 digital price. If you buy on disc, confirm with the retailer that any pre-order Bonus Content Pack code is included, because listings were inconsistent about it. The short version

Planet Zoo 2 is a standard $49.99 launch with a single, genuinely content-bearing deluxe upgrade on top. Nothing about the pricing is unusual for 2026 — no subscription, no early access, no season pass — and the Deluxe Upgrade Pack remains available separately, so the edition choice is reversible.
